MEET UPS: Fountain Arts, Our Big Picture & Artlink Hull

Following the launch of Over the Bridge in 2025, we hosted three initial meet ups across our partner organisations: Fountain Arts, Our Big Picture and Artlink Hull. These meet ups were designed to be open, welcoming sessions for photographers to share ideas, help shape the programme, and let us know what they need from a regional network.

Although the sessions were structured as drop-ins, most participants chose to stay to chat and connect, which was a clear indication of the need for a community. Every attendee contributed valuable insights, and while experience levels varied, a shared theme quickly emerged: photographers across the Humber region are seeking meaningful connection and support.

At its core, Over the Bridge is about building community, it was encouraging to see this ethos reflected so strongly in every conversation we had during the meet ups.

As a pilot project, Over the Bridge has been funded to test ideas and lay the groundwork for a long-term, sustainable photography network. These meet-ups, and the start of the project, marked the first time these three locations have been brought together through a shared photographic focus, and they confirmed that we are building something both needed and valuable.

Participants highlighted the importance of stronger exchange between artists across towns and cities, increased opportunities for professional development and visibility, and public exhibitions that celebrate regional talent.

These conversations directly informed our programme planning. Working collaboratively with our partners, we are co-creating a network shaped by and for local photographers, one that supports participants to develop their practice, build confidence, and gain visibility in a region that is often overlooked.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, ideas and feedback, participant input is continuing to shape the network.
