GO SEE: Barnsley Foto Festival
Our first go see visit took us to the inaugural Barnsley Foto Festival, a day dedicated to exploring contemporary photography and connecting as a group.
We met up with a cohort of photographers to experience exhibitions across the town, offering a valuable opportunity to engage with work outside our region. Group visits like this create space not only to view exhibitions, but to reflect, discuss and build relationships with others in the network.
A key highlight was the Jerwood x Photoworks exhibition, it was particularly exciting to see a major show presented in the North after previously being exhibited in London.
We were also fortunate to have a guided tour of Barnsley Civic with curator Jason, who provided deeper insight into the exhibitions and the venue’s wider programme.
The visit was both inspiring and energising, and it also introduced new participants to the network. We look forward to creating further opportunity for more go see visits like this, as they provide great experiences for photographers to visit exhibitions outside of the region, encourage critical thinking, support shared learning and strengthen connections through collective experiences.
